:: August days... ::

" There is no month in the whole year

in which nature wears a more beautiful appearance

than in the month of August.

... and yet what a pleasant time it is!

Orchards and cornfields ring with the hum of labor;

trees bend beneath the thick clusters of rich fruit

which bow their branches to the ground;

and the corn, piled in graceful sheaves,

or waving in every light breath that sweeps above it,

as if it wooed the sickle,

tinges the landscape with a golden hue.

A mellow softness appears to hang

over the whole earth..."

{Pickwick Papers - Charles Dickens}

the mellow softness of the

golden, light filled

August days...

thankful for another birthday celebrated,

53 years and it just keeps getting better.

our youngest child's senior year...

my goodness...this heart is full.

lingering in the loveliness of

the lengthening shadows of

the morning light.

I'm drawn to the moody softness

of these mornings,

my camera drawn to the whisperings

of autumn on the horizon.

re-reading The Thirteenth Tale

yet once again...

a perfect prelude to September.

no matter how many times

I visit this novel,

my adoration grows and grows.

there is nothing better, in my opinion,

than the comfort of re-reading

a favorite novel.

my mind is already creating a list

of all the bookish goodness

on the horizon.

as August bids farewell

I feel a thrumming of enthusiasm

for the return of cozy days,

fireside nights.

soon, very soon....
