" Summer did come at last and, when it did, it was one of those
summers of poems and stories and country pictures,
a once-upon-a-time summer, it was hot day after day, week after week,
so that we slipped into a dream, where we imagined it never ending,
a paradise world of long, golden days.
Time stretched out into the pale far distance and the mists that girdled the day about,
so that we seemed to be somehow suspended, floating in them.
When we awoke, it was to a soft, pearly mist, like gauze,
that left the faintest veil of damp on the skin and the hair,
and on the grass and the leaves and the wooden fences."
{The Magic Apple Tree : Susan Hill}
A joyful July
new adventures
summer travels.
days so hot
one could melt
thankful for a cool home.
the garden has been a joy
abundant cherry tomatoes
so sweet and dainty
how delicious!
zinnias gracing my
morning with their beauty
cosmos flourishing
such fluttery goodness.
awaiting with bated breath
for the dahlias to put on a show.
the cucumbers and strawberries
decided to take the summer off
from producing
which is understandable considering
the sweltering daily 100 degrees of this month.
next year will be cherry tomatoes
and a cutting garden
for flowers are my greatest joy
(cherry tomatoes, too).
spent languorous afternoons
cuddled up in my library
reading Les Miserable.
to describe the elation and satisfaction
of this literary journey
is hard to put into words.
this astounding novel of humanity,
forgiveneness and love.
oh, July...you were joyous.
